Mitt Romney showed the size of his largess when after losing the election he cut off funding to the credit cards for thousands of his staffers, leaving some stranded and without a revenue source.
Many campaign workers found themselves in restaurants, or cabs with an anxious vendor waiting to be paid and the staffer’s credit cards declined. Mitt Romney left them holding the bag, and he was no longer willing to foot the bill. Some workers found themselves stranded in strange cities across the nation, hundreds or thousands of miles from home, without a penny in their pocket and no plan of action to take next.
This entire scenario is a window into the type of man Mitt Romney is at his core. When there is nothing to lose, and the cameras are not rolling, he is a ruthless individual.
Some members of the Romney staff took it in stride. MSNBC.com reported one staffer who, when asked about the credit cards being cut off, shrugged and said: “Fiscally conservative.”
As is often the case, the perspective of the situation depends on how one looks at the situation.

As someone who’s worked on campaigns, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan better not want to hire campaign staff again. When you fuck people over, they talk to their pals — which is your pool of potential staffers. It’s like when you get food poisoning at a restaurant. You tell everyone.
And who’s shocked that Romney screwed his minions? Anyone?

Saving this for the files in case Paul Ryan tries to run for something big in the future. (Doubt Mitt the Twit will.)

A detailed Huffington Post review of Romney’s budget proposals from his first year in office, however, reveals that he advocated deep cuts to programs serving the state’s most vulnerable — even when those cuts had little effect on the state’s fiscal position. Romney’s aggressive reductions to social programs did not earn support across the aisle. The state legislature ended up overriding more than 115 Romney vetoes in his first year as governor.

“There was no magic in the Romney approach,” recalled former Democratic state Rep. Dan Bosley. It was “cut as many social programs as you can.” Bosley added: “If we didn’t override every one of his vetoes, we overrode most of his vetoes. … There wasn’t a bipartisan effort to run government.”

"Today, same-sex couples are marrying, under the law, in Massachusetts. Some gays are actually having children born to them. We’ve been asked to change their birth certificates to remove the phrase “mother” and “father” and replace it with “parent A” and “parent B.” It’s not right on paper. It’s not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father."

Ann Romney: "'Throw out' the American public education system."

justinspoliticalcorner:

Ann Romney and First Lady Michelle Obama were interviewed for the November issue of Good Housekeeping magazine, just out.  Our First Lady, of course was charming, positive and well-informed.

Mrs. Romney? Well …

Among her talking points, this:

I’ve been a First Lady of the State. I have seen what happens to people’s lives if they don’t get a proper education. And we know the answers to that. The charter schools have provided the answers. The teachers’ unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system.

Good Housekeeping

Mrs. Romney, of course, is not an educator and has no experience as a teacher.  Other than as a candidate’s wife (if then), she’s probably never even set a well-shod dainty foot inside a public school.  She went to private school; so did her husband and children. And the “answers” the charter schools are providing?  As mysterious as her tax returns.  I guess we’ll just have to take her word for it.

And as is said at the end of every useless infomercial – but wait!  There’s more.

Why do you think your husband is the best person to be President?

I’d say because of his life experience, starting with the example [his father] George Romney set of being successful in his family and business and then serving in a political sphere… . The formula from his perspective was, you never get involved in politics unless you’re financially secure and your children are raised. So when our children were older and Mitt had made a bit of money, there was his father’s example that you find ways to serve and give back.

(NotePoor people! Women with children! Young people! Stay out of politics!)

Yes, Mrs. Romney, because heaven knows you will never have to endure receiving the other kind of gold star.

But why serve? As Mrs. Romney said on The View last week, Mormon missions are the equivalent of military service:

My five sons have also served their mission. None served in the military. None served in the military, but I do have one son that feels that he’s giving back to his country in a significant way where he is now a doctor, and he is taking care of veterans. So we find different ways of serving, and my five boys and my husband did serve missions, and did not serve in the military.

“I sent them away boys, and they came back men,” she added.

It seems to me that Governor Romney’s entire campaign is based on his belief – and his wife’s – that he is somehow entitled to be President.

He isn’t.

Let’s do everything we can during these next critical days to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Vote early if you can.

Canvass.

Mitt Romney kept quiet last week when the subject was rape and God’s will. He remained silent the week before when the news was all about Illinois factory workers pleading with him to stop his alma mater Bain Capital from offshoring their jobs.

At no time this year did Mitt denounce Republican employers who threatened their workers if President Obama is re-elected or condemn repeated Republican legislative attempts to suppress Democratic votes.

Throughout the campaign, Mitt Romney confronted numerous George Washington moments — opportunities to establish an aura of honor. It takes moxie to tell fellow Republicans that voter suppression is un-American. Only a guy with strongly held principles would stand up to the firm he founded and insist they stop the morally bankrupt practice of offshoring jobs from profit-making American factories. At every turn, Romney chose the ignoble path. He kept his mouth shut rather than speak up for what’s right.

"Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has gotten this far with a guile that allows him to say whatever he thinks an audience wants to hear. But he has tied himself to the ultraconservative forces that control the Republican Party and embraced their policies, including reckless budget cuts and 30-year-old, discredited trickle-down ideas. Voters may still be confused about Mr. Romney’s true identity, but they know the Republican Party, and a Romney administration would reflect its agenda. Mr. Romney’s choice of Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate says volumes about that."

In 1963, Mitt Romney lost a “dear” and “close” relative to an illegal abortion. Ann Keenan was the sister of his brother-in-law, Loren “Larry” Keenan, husband to Mitt’s sister, Lynn. By all accounts, her death at age 21 “deeply impacted members of the family.” Romney’s…

"The media soon noticed Romney’s familiarity with foreign tax havens. A $3 million Swiss bank account appeared in the 2010 returns, then winked out of existence in 2011 after the trustee closed it, as if to remind us of George Romney’s warning that one or two tax returns can provide a misleading picture. Ed Kleinbard, a professor of tax law at the University of Southern California, says the Swiss account “has political but not tax-policy resonance,” since it—like many other Romney investments—constituted a bet against the U.S. dollar, an odd thing for a presidential candidate to do. The Obama campaign provided a helpful world map pointing to the tax havens Bermuda, Luxembourg, and the Cayman Islands, where Romney and his family have assets, each with the tagline “Value: not disclosed in tax returns."

"They were having in event in Bettendorf, Iowa. And they—if you went online, you could get these free tickets, so we decided we would go. And I was seven rows from the podium that he stood behind. And I asked him, “Will you please come to Freeport, Illinois, and help Sensata employees save their jobs?” At that point, we were removed. And as we were being removed, his supporters are scream—first they start a “U.S.A.” chant. And we’re like, “Yes, we agree.” And then they started calling us communists for trying to keep our jobs from going to China. And I have never understood that yet."

Tom Gaulrapp, Sensata Employee of 33 years, talks about his experience at a Romney campaign stop. Sensata is controlled by Bain Capital, the company Romney helmed for years and still owns interest in. He was there to plead with Romney to intervene, to stop his and his colleagues jobs from being shipped overseas.

Also, this:

Well, you know, this was—this is a business that makes a lot of profits. Sensata Technology has set a record last year for profitability. So it’s not like they’re moving these jobs because it’s either move it or it goes bankrupt. It’s just they don’t make enough. And the Chinese government is providing them with a plant, and they can save on labor. And a dollar seems to be more important to them than any sense of community responsibility towards the areas where they are.

To be clear, Tom isn’t being let go because of necessary cutbacks due to a failing business. He’s being let go to boost his boss’ bottom line in spite of a great fiscal year. Gotta love those job creators.

I’m sure in the coming days we’ll see articles about this being yet another attack on Mitt Romney by “lyin’ liberals” and whatnot. People will say he has no influence in the matter while conveniently ignoring the fact that this particular business model was pioneered by none other than Mittens himself.

I’m sure Mitt Romney has never gained anything from tactics like these. Oh. Wait. Never mind that.

What bothers me most is the treatment of these people by Romney, his campaign, and his supporters. Romney may or may not have influence over Bain today, but what he does have control over right now is his campaign and the people running it. What does his campaign do? Sic the police on people who might be under this crazy notion that a presidential candidate might be interested in actually taking a stand FOR them. I guess this is where we pretend that the man who wants to run the country was completely ignorant (and therefore innocent) in the matter and accept it as a valid excuse. We also pretend that Romney’s privilege as Presidential candidate and former founder of the company firing the people in question simply doesn’t exist.

This is the treatment Romney’s so called 47% can expect in their hour of need. Something to remember when you walk to the polls this November.
